Oh, the irony! Even dwarfs towered over this little-appreciated art that in essence is the heart and soul of cinema! The film editing department was a small structure that stood in the shadow of the much larger Seven Dwarfs Building on the Disney studio lot. The man we were going to see was Bruce Green, Garry Marshall’s editor. I was too embarrassed to tell him I had no idea who a film editor was, so I kept my answer short and simply said no.
He asked me if I had ever seen a film editor at work. Garry and I took the short walk from the soundstage over to the editing department. It was a hot and sunny Southern California winter day in the year 2000 at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.
It has been a long time since I first witnessed the magic of non-linear editing.
